Shopify integration with Ascend | Beta now open
To learn more or get started, contact the Ascend Business Development Team at sales@ascendrms.com.
Currently, Ascend does not support automatic processing of Shopify returns. To complete a return, you’ll need to process it manually in both Ascend and your Shopify Admin.
If a customer returns items in person and presents their credit card, you can process the return in Ascend as you normally would.
- Create a return using either the Return button on the transaction toolbar or the Return icon on the Desktop. Article: Sales - Create a Return
- On the Previous Sales Item dialog box, scan or enter the original transaction’s barcode.
- Select the items being returned and click the Add button.
- A prompt to give a refund to the original customer appears. Select Yes. If you select No, you will need to attach a different customer to the transaction.
- Once a customer is selected, the transaction screen opens.
- If you used the Previous Sales Items window, the original price is automatically applied to the product, and the product has a negative quantity.
- If you did not scan the original receipt, you will need to add the product(s) being returned to the sale. Scan the product into the sale. Ascend automatically gives the item(s) a negative quantity.
- The price that appears, though, may not be totally accurate for your customer. Ascend fills in the lowest price - including On Sale prices - the product was ever sold for, to avoid fraud. You can update the price if needed.
- Once product(s) are attached to the Return, you'll notice that the Balance shows up in parentheses, indicating a negative balance, such as (49.99). This means that money is 'leaving' your store and being given back to the customer.
- Select the eCommerce payment and specific Card Type from the dropdown.
- Note: If the customer is present, you can refund the customer through the appropriate payment.
- Click Save.

Remote refunds
If the customer and their card are not present, you must:
- Create the return in Shopify.
- Issue the refund to the customer through your Shopify Admin.
