FAQ

General Questions

What’s the best way to contact Shopify? Use the Shopify Help Center to find answers or contact support directly.
Will Ascend automatically create products in Shopify? No. Product creation in Shopify is not part of the integration and is your responsibility. A helpful report in Ascend HQ is available to assist with your initial product import.
Will Ascend upload product photos, extended descriptions, or other media? No. Photos, descriptions, and other content is not part of the integration and must be added directly in Shopify.
Does the Ascend and Shopify integration support any third party integrators? No. Our integration is between Ascend and Shopify. We do not do any testing with any additional third party integrators.

Location Management

Can I set up multiple locations for in-store pickup or delivery? Yes, but only one location can be selected by the customer at checkout.
Can I have a location in Shopify that’s not set up in Ascend? No. A 1:1 relationship between Shopify and Ascend locations is required for sales data to sync correctly.
Can customers purchase products from multiple locations and pick them up at one?

 Yes. There are two options:

  • Option 1: Set up products with multiple locations and enable “Continue selling when out of stock” in Shopify.
⚠️ This can lead to overselling and requires customers to pay attention to availability by location.
  • Option 2: Use transfer locations. For stores with in-store pickup enabled, you can configure one location to sell inventory from another via transfers in Ascend.
    • 🔁 These require manual in-store transfers between locations.
Can I set up multiple shipping locations? No. Only a single shipping location is supported. During checkout, if a product marked for shipping is unavailable at the selected location, the customer will be prompted to choose a different delivery method or location.

Product Syncing & Variants

Do product SKUs need to match between Ascend and Shopify? Yes. SKU matching is case-sensitive. Ascend uses uppercase SKUs, so Shopify SKUs must also be uppercase.
Can I use bundled products in Shopify? No. Products set up as bundles—especially via third-party apps—may not sync properly and could cause errors.
Which product statuses sync from Shopify to Ascend? Only Active products sync. Products in Draft or Archived status are skipped.
Can I create and manage product variants in Shopify? Yes, but they must be created manually.
How many variants can I attach to a product? 50 variants per model. This limit exists due to integration constraints between Ascend’s data model and Shopify’s API, along with performance and complexity considerations.
Which price appears on the website if I have multiple locations? The price displayed will be from the location that last updated it.
Will my promotions appears in Ascend appear on Shopify? Your sale pricing will, but Ascend will not create a promotion for you in Shopify. You would need to create a Sale Collection manually on Shopify.

Inventory Syncing

Do I need to schedule the initial inventory upload from Ascend? No. Once integration is complete, your initial product inventory and pricing will upload automatically.
What is a Delta Sync? A Delta Sync is a background sync that pushes recent inventory changes from Ascend to Shopify every 15 minutes.
Includes: Receiving, Sales, and Inventory Adjustments.
Is there a nightly sync? Yes. A Bulk Update occurs every night at 12:05 AM, syncing all inventory and pricing data.
