Search Customers
From the Create or Search Transactions screen, click With Customer.
The Customer Search will launch where you can search by Phone or Email, or searching by Name.
Phone / Email
Enter a Phone or Email address and click Search.
Note: This is EXACT MATCH only; no partial search is available for Phone or Email Search.
Name
Enter Name information into either Last Name or First Name (at least one field is required) and click Search.
Once you have entered Phone or Email, or Name click Search and results will be displayed.
If you entered any information incorrectly and would like to begin your search again, click the Back button.
Customer Found
Single Customer match found
If there's a single customer match, you'll be automatically routed to either a new Quote transaction or the Customer Transaction view, depending on whether the customer has any open transactions.
Multiple Customer matches found
If there are multiple customer matches, the records will display in a Card View by default. You can switch to a Grid View by clicking the toggle.
Card View
In Card View, you can single-click on the desired customer record to be automatically routed to either a new Quote transaction or the Customer Transaction view, depending on whether the customer has any open transactions.
Grid View
Grid View displays customer records in a traditional grid format. You can sort by using the column headers or entering a keyword in the upper right corner.
Note: Keyword sorting applies to the total results returned from your initial search.
In Grid View, double-click on the desired customer record to be automatically routed to either a new Quote transaction or the Customer Transaction view, depending on whether the customer has any open transactions.

Create a New Customer
If no customer matches are found, you can create a new Customer record by entering the First Name and Last Name, then clicking Create Customer.
Notes:
- For the initial launch of Ascend Cloud, only the First and Last Name are required for Customer record creation.
- Birthday is optional.
- The Marketing checkbox is the same as "Include in Communications" within the Customer record in the current Ascend Client.
Important: If you change or enter a Phone Number or Email address, you must search for matching customers again before you can create a new Customer. This helps reduce the risk of creating duplicate customers.
Duplicate Email Address
If a duplicate email address is found, a prompt will give you the option to save the new Customer record and remove that email address from all other matching Customer records.
Duplicate Phone Numbers
Duplicate phone numbers are allowed on different customers, but you'll need to use the Customer Override to achieve this.
Override Customer Creation
If you search for a Phone Number or Email address and find a match, you'll be taken directly to the transaction screen with the matching Customer record associated. If this is an incorrect customer, or you want to create a new record with similar information, you can use the Override flow:
- From the multiple customer matches found results, click Customer Not Found (Card View) or New Customer (Grid View).
- You'll see a prompt related to matching record counts, such as when other customers have identical phone numbers.
- Enter the new Customer's First and Last Name, then click Create Customer to be taken to the Quote transaction screen.
Without Customer
Ascend Best Practice: Always ensure a customer is associated with a Quote. While you can start a Quote without entering customer information, it's best practice not to close out a Quote without associating it with a customer.
To create a transaction without a customer, click Without Customer from the Create or Search Transactions screen.
If you are already in the Customer Search or Create screen you can click Without Customer. You can also click Without Customer from the multiple customer search results screen.
Can I associate a customer after I've clicked Without Customer?
Yes. Once you are in the transaction screen you can click the “No Customer” icon and then click Select Customer.
By clicking Select Customer the Search / Create Customer screen will appear.
