Products - Create a Promotion

Learn how to craft an effective sales promotion to increase revenue and customer engagement.

Promotions in Ascend make it easy for you to quickly discount specific products or categories for your customers.

Create a promotion manually

  1. Select View > Promotions from the Ascend Desktop.
  2. Click the Add icon just below the search bar near the top of the screen.

  1. Select your Promotion preferences including: 
    1. Type: 
      1. Product: Select specific products to add to the Promotion.
      2. Category: Select specific Categories to add to the Promotion. Any product within those categories will be added to the Promotion.
    2. Description: Name/Description of the Promotion.
    3. Start Date: Products or categories will begin charging the sales price on this date.
    4. End Date: Products or categories will return to their MSRP after this date.
    5. Use Promotion Pricing (for multi-store retailers): Run the promotion at specific locations by checking or unchecking the Use Promotion Pricing box.
    6. Customer Groups Only: The Promotion is only active when associated with a Customer Group.
      1. Please note that this is a permanent option and cannot be undone once the Promotion is saved.

    7. In-Store: The Promotion is active in-store. Any transaction physically run in your store.
    8. E-Commerce: The Promotion is active online (Workstand and Locally).
    9. Closeout: Use the Closeout option to help move older product off your shelves. Closeout Promotions don't expire until the product sells out. 
  2. Click Save to record your settings and create your Promotion.

Download a Promotion using the Promotion Wizard

  1. Select View > Promotions from the Ascend Desktop.
  2. Click the Wizard icon.

  1. The Promotion Wizard window opens. Highlight a Promotion here, and view the included products for that promotion on the bottom.

  1. You can highlight individual products in the promotion to:
    • Edit the Product record.
    • Remove the item from the promotion.
    • Or print a product Label.

  1. When you’re ready, click Download to add the sale promotion to your database.

  1. Click the Print Labels icon to print a set of labels for all items in your new Promotion. Select the number of labels you want, or select this button so you can confirm each item one at a time before printing. 

  1. Click Close when you're done.

Excluded

 If you remove a product from the sale, it appears in the Excluded tab, so you can always keep track of them. And if you accidentally remove a product you didn't intend to, you can Restore products.

Discrepancy

There’s also a tab for Discrepancies, which will include any products in the sale that don’t exist in your Ascend system or that have duplicate UPCs. For duplicates, you can edit the product record from here to fix any issues.
